3 Must Have Nursery Products for First Time Parents

Are you looking forward to welcoming a new baby into your home soon? Setting up a nursery is one of the most exciting parts of welcoming a new baby, and it can certainly make the time waiting for the arrival of your latest family member pass quickly. But with so many baby products on the market, what do you choose – and what do you really need?
-
Must Have Nursery Products
There are a lot of products marketed towards parents, and frankly, we don’t need half of them. Ask any parent what their child really needed for those first few months, and most of them will tell you they need somewhere safe to sleep, clothes to wear, nappies, food, and lots of cuddles. Let’s look at some of the must-have items for your new nursery outside the above items.
-
Furniture
We mentioned somewhere to sleep as an essential, and even if you are planning on having your baby sleep in a bassinet to start with, that won’t really last too long. Getting yourself a cot straight away will give you the peace of mind that your baby has a bed for when you are ready to move them into it. Other furniture you may consider really depends on the space you have in the room. If you have a built-in wardrobe, purchasing drawers may not be required. But if your wardrobe is small or the room just doesn’t have a wardrobe, drawers are essential – you need somewhere to pop all those cute baby clothes after all. Shop smart, and you will be able to find drawers that can double as a change table, giving you one less thing to think about. A comfortable chair is also an essential. Whether you are planning on breastfeeding or bottle feeding, babies feed a lot and the last thing you want is to be stuck on an uncomfortable chair during witching hour.

Comfortable Flooring
Your baby might seem little now, but it won’t be long before they will be rolling around on the floor and increasing their tummy time. Comfortable flooring is a must and the best way to achieve this is through a padded floor mat. The Relax Mat is a soft touch tatami mat which is perfect for playrooms as well as loungerooms. It gives your child somewhere soft to play and lay on the floor – and even better it is stain and spill resistant. If you have timber floors or even carpeted floors that just aren’t that comfortable, a tatami mat will be a great addition to your nursery.

Blackout Curtains
This might seem like an odd one, but a dark room can help your little one fall asleep quicker and sleep better. As adults we know how hard it can be to get to sleep in a room that isn’t quite dark enough – and babies are the same. They quickly learn that when the sun is up, it’s playtime. Blackout curtains are probably one of the least expensive items you will have in your nursery, but they are one of the most helpful. Shopping for a nursery is exciting and overwhelming all at the same time. Before you start, make a list of the products you must have and the products you want. You don’t need to create your nursery in one weekend, and once you get all your must-haves in there, your “wants” list will likely reduce.

Good luck with fitting out your nursery!
